Small can be beautiful, especially when it comes to decorated trees
Just because you live in a small space it doesn’t mean that you have to do without a beautiful Christmas tree. The Artificial Christmas trees can easily stand on a table or a windowsill, and like the large trees you can also get them pre-lit so no faffing around trying to put on lights. When it comes to lights more is definitely the way to go, we recommend at least 100 per 30cm (1’) of tree. If you don’t have a power supply there are some really efficient LED battery operated lights on the market nowadays. Two sets of 192 should easily make a 90 – 120cm (3 – 4’) tree look stunning. The advantage of lighting your own tree is that when you change your decorations you can change the lights too.
There are masses of small trees to choose from with the most expensive being the 120cm (4’) pre-lit Weeping Spruce; which has Feel Real branch tips making it one of the most life-like trees on the market. If you opt for a cool palette then one of the snowy blue trees would really complement these colours. The Snowy Dorchester Pine tree also suits a contemporary colour scheme of copper, lime and white or teal, copper and white. If you want a truly minimalist contemporary tree then the pre-lit twig trees are ideal and particularly suited to todays’ neutral home décor schemes as they don’t really need any form of decoration.
Keep the decorations in proportion to the tree, larger at the bottom going smaller as you go up the tree. The standard 80mm baubles should be right for the bottom but would be too large for the top, so get a mixture of sizes. If you are decorating on a budget you can get a 40 pack of varying sized shatterproof baubles plus a star topper, for a reasonable amount of money.
Shatterproof baubles have come a long way in the last few years with some of them barely distinguishable from glass; so if you have children or pets they are the sensible option. If you struggle to put together a cohesive colour scheme for your decorations click here to read the blog which helps you choose the colours. The 120cm (4’) Woodland Carolina Pine also comes pre-decorated with pine cones but the Woodland tree looks the most like a natural pine as the top branches are quite sparse.
Don’t forget when buying your tree that the size is from the base of the pot to the very tip of the tree. Almost without exception the small trees are narrow at the base making them ideal to go either side of a doorway, just remember that they are not weatherproof so will need protection to ensure they don’t get wet. Most of them come either in a plastic pot which just sits in an ordinary plant pot or with the base wrapped in a burlap sack, in which case you don’t need to do anything with it unless you want to attach some of the decorations to break up the hessian.
A small tree doesn’t have to look like the poor relation to the large tree, positioned in a small intimate place and elevated to eye level it can also have impact and what’s more doesn’t cost a fortune to decorate.
