How To Dead Head And Prune Roses After They Have Finished Flowering

Enjoy a second flush of roses in early autumn by pruning in summer

A little light pruning in summer after your rose has finished flowering can often produce a second flush of flowers in later summer/early autumn.

You will need:

  • secateurs

 

Once they have finished flowering cut the stems back by about a third to a half; do this at the same time as you dead head instead of just removing the spent flower.

Cut back to a healthy outward facing leaf node.

Feed with a rose fertiliser to encourage new growth and remember to keep it well watered in any dry periods.
