Dwarf Beans are ideal for small spaces, easily grown in a pot
Many Dwarf bean varieties are suitable for growing in small spaces, yielding a surprisingly high number of beans. These dwarf beans only grow to a height of 30 – 45cm (12 – 18”).
You will need:
- 35cm (15”) pot
- multi-purpose compost
- seed
- watering can with a fine rose
- labels
The variety we have chosen is ‘Bellini’ which is ideal for containers.
Fill the container with good quality peat-free compost to within 2.5cm (1”) of the rim, level off.
Push 3 beans evenly spaced around the edge, about 2.5cm (1”) into the compost and cover.
Water in with a fine rose.
For a succession of beans throughout the summer sow a pot at 2 weekly intervals. They should germinate in 10 - 14 days.
They need to be kept in a light frost-free place until all danger of frost has passed then they can be moved to a sunny position outside.
Remember to keep watered if the weather is dry, if they get too dry they will stop producing flowers and the beans won’t fill out.
