How to deal with insect infestations; every gardener's nightmare
The problem of insect, and in particular aphid, infestations is one which plagues almost every gardener and with climate change becoming a reality and leading to higher temperatures this is only going to get worse. One of our most frequently asked questions here at Hayes Garden World is how to get rid of aphids, so this short video shows you the quickest and most effective method of chemical insect control.
Spraying kills the insects on contact and also penetrates through into the actual plant which then kills any future aphid attack. For the small gardener there are ready made preparations all set just to apply, or for the larger garden there are concentrations which you mix yourself and apply with a sprayer.
When applying an insecticide always make sure that you coat the underside of the leaves as well as the upper surface, as most insects cling to the underside of the leaves to avoid being spotted by predators. If you don’t want to resort to chemicals you can always feed the birds which will feast on the insects; but this method can take some time to be effective, so if you have a heavy infestation you may have to resort to chemicals to keep it under control.
