Buyers guide to weatherproof garden table covers. A cover for your garden table protects the table from adverse weather conditions, dust, mildew and the suns UV rays. Although the garden furniture sold by Hayes is fully weatherproof and can be left outdoors all year round. Covering them over the winter ensures they remain in an ‘as new’ condition as long as possible. All the maintenance you then have to do in spring is brush the furniture down with a soft brush to remove any grit particles and maybe give it a wipe down with a coft cloth and warm water. The first consideration is to make sure you know the size of the garden table as many of the covers are specific to particular styles of garden furniture. Some of our garden tables have dedicated covers but if you are struggling to find one the correct size just call our Customer Services team on the number at the top of the website and they will be able to find you a cover to fit. Just make sure you have all the measurements to hand. Although the garden table covers are weatherproof they are 100% waterproof as they have to be breathable, if there is not a good airflow around the garden table there is a tendency for mildew and other moulds to grow. Although they will not affect the function of the furniture they  can be difficult to remove and are unsightly. If the material from which the cover is constructed if fully waterproof make sure it has mesh panels or some other means of allowing the air to circulate. Make sure the covers shed water and that it is not allowed to pool as that is when it will seep through the cover. Place a bucket on the table top underneath the cover to allow water to run straight off, make sure the covers are pulled as tight as possible. The cover must have some means by which you can fasten it securely around the bottom of the furniture, if it’s not secure you run the risk of losing it in strong winds. If strong winds are forecast secure all the garden furniture pieces together to prevent the lighter chairs from flying around the garden where they could cause damage to people and property. Always remove the glass table top before covering, stow it somewhere under cover where it is not subject to strong winds. Buying a cover from a reputable brand could be more cost effective than a cheaper alternative, as it will last a lot longer and provide more protection. A good quality weatherproof garden table cover will use more robust fabric, be better constructed and, in most cases, will come with some warranty. The fabric is also more likely to be UV resistant, making it resistant to fading.

FAQ

Ian Hodgett

Is a garden table cover essential?
All the garden furniture sold by Hayes Garden World is fully weatherproof and can be left outdoors all year round. Covering your garden table in winter will keep it clear of bird droppings, dust and debris and keep it looking as new for longer.
Do I leave the glass top on the garden table when I cover it in winter?

No, if possible remove the glass table top and store it safely in the garage or shed out of the wind. If strong winds are forecast it would be safer to secure all your garden furniture together to prevent it flying around and damaging people and property.
